Rock Who You Are Right Now

Does it ever seem to you like society won’t even let you feel good about yourself? We are bombarded with pictures of celebrities with “perfect” bodies, surrounded by women who are sometimes more in competition with you than supportive of you, and taunted by Instagram pictures of meals, vacations and parties that seem too good to be true (if they seem that way, they probably are!)

Well, I call a stop to it all. It’s time we feel good about ourselves and our bodies, regardless of weight, body type, looks or age. If this article can help just one other woman (or man) feel better about themselves, then my mission is accomplished. This is a mission that started with me needing to love myself, and now that I’m accomplishing that (most days), I’d like to spread the word!

I was raised in a very traditional family, and that upbringing can make you feel like you’re never quite enough. My culture valued thin, quiet girls who did what they were told, and I therefore was always just what my parents wanted me to be. I now know I need to be my own person, confident to express myself in many different ways. I can be strong, powerful, professional, sexy, fun and flirtatious, and I can be all of these things and a plus-size woman to boot!

I used to wait until I was an ideal weight to buy that pretty dress or sexy bra. But now I say “don’t let your weight make you wait!” Be a goddess no matter where you’re at in your journey – buy that gorgeous outfit or get that new haircut and feel wonderful about yourself.

When I look at the photo of myself on this page, if I do say so myself, I think it’s stunning. I feel beautiful – like a goddess – I love my hair, I love my eyes, I love my dress, I love my makeup. But I hesitate even writing this, because it’s often taken as “who does she think she is”. Haters are gonna hate, but we need to start allowing others to celebrate their beauty and confidence. We shouldn’t put so much importance on others’ opinions. Why is it when we feel so good about ourselves, and we’re rocking the outfit we have on, if our significant other or friend doesn’t compliment us, it makes us feel lesser about it. If I feel good about it, and I love it, that’s all that really matters.

Rock who you are right now, and enjoy every minute that this precious life gives you, as this is all we have. I challenge you to stop waiting – go out there and get that little black dress or pixie cut you’ve always wanted, and send us pics at editor@themomandcaregiver.com – we want to see you shine!

“Don’t fall into the trap of sacrificing your self-esteem for affection and acceptance. No matter what your size, you are a sexy goddess. Remember that.”
