Three (Thousand) Cheers For Teachers!
“Teachers affect eternity; they can never tell where their influence stops” – Henry Adams
It’s been 30 years since I was last in elementary and high school, yet I remember some moments like they were yesterday. Many of these moments were tied to special teachers who did small special things for me – things that I still use today or remember with such fondness. I recall:
- A teacher who gave me a “Ramona the Brave” book and told me I was ready to read my first novel.
- A teacher who taught me about different cultures by sharing her food and dress, and more importantly taught us that we are all different but all very much the same.
- A teacher who taught me that the written word is a beautiful and powerful thing.
- A teacher who cared for me when I sat crying at my desk after hearing unkind words from a classmate.
- A teacher that expected only the best from everyone, and who taught me that hard work is difficult but definitely something to be proud of.
