Expand Your Horizons!
Invisalign Clear Aligners are game changers in Orthodontics. Now they are doing it again with an innovative approach in Early Orthodontic Treatment.
Dr. Ari and his team are proud to be utilizing this new technique, “Invisalign Palatal Expanders”. This is one of the latest treatment options to assist with the development and growth of the teeth.
It uses a series of 3D-printed expanders that will gradually expand the arch to create space for the adult teeth to erupt. The Invisalign Palatal Expander System is an alternative treatment option for our children and teenagers who cannot tolerate traditional expanders.
The expander applies gentle pressure to the upper teeth and palate to gradually widen the jaw, creating more space and improving the alignment of the teeth. The number of devices required depends on the amount of expansion desired.
Using Them Together
In some cases, a palatal expander might be used in conjunction with Invisalign. For example:
- Pre-Treatment: Sometimes, a palatal expander is used first to create enough space in the upper jaw before starting Orthodontics or Invisalign treatment. This can be particularly important if the patient’s upper jaw is too narrow to accommodate the teeth properly.
- Sequential Treatment: After the upper arch has been expanded and the jaw has grown to the desired width, Invisalign aligners can then be used to fine-tune the alignment of the teeth.
Treatment Considerations
Age: Palatal expanders are most effective in growing children and teenagers, as their bones are still developing and are more responsive to expansion.
Duration: The time needed for a palatal expander to be effective can vary. Treatment with an expander is typically followed by a period where the patient wears retainers to maintain the new jaw width before transitioning to Invisalign or Traditional Orthodontics.
Comfort and Adjustments: Both palatal expanders can require adjustments and may have a period of adaptation. Palatal expanders might cause some discomfort initially and require regular adjustments by the dentists of Ari Pediatric Dentistry.
