Thank You and Boo to You!
October is definitely a month of celebration (and one of my favourite months of the year)! It’s a time to make memories with family, enjoy a seasonal Starbucks drink, savour a slice of pumpkin pie and sneak treats from a bag of bite-sized candy!
It’s an especially great month to get out and explore London and surrounding area with those you love. You’ll be thankful for our Events page (page 5) – it’s full of frightening fun, cute events, and everything in between! Celebrate Thanksgiving with SOUPer Bowl or a Pioneer Thanksgiving Luncheon. Take the littles to a Halloween Library Storytime or Pumpkins After Dark. And adults can catch a fright at Dracula: A Comedy of Terrors or Rocky Horror Picture Show. Can you believe you can do all of this in our own beautiful city?
You’ll also want to spend your time perusing the pages of our October issue. Looking for a laugh? Check out Observed in the Wild: Teenagerus Maximus (page 12) for information on the habitat, diet and behaviours of the North American teenager. Or discover a kid’s angle on October 31st in Fright Night: All About Halloween (page 10).
Looking for more serious parenting advice? Our parenting coach, Melanie Wallis, shares Five Things I’ve Learned About Parenting That I Wish I Knew Earlier. Learn why calm doesn’t mean permissive on page 13.
Did you know that when your child has a meltdown, their body has just released over 34 biochemicals, hormones, cortisol, adrenaline and noradrenaline, affecting all aspects of their body and mind? Find out how to help them relax with Nurse Practitioner and certified trauma therapist, Becky Morrison on page 8.
The thing we’re most thankful for this month is you – our readers and advertisers. We couldn’t do it without you, and we feel honoured and supported each and every month by this community that we call home. We’re wishing you and your loved ones an abundance of love this Thanksgiving, as well as a safe and thrilling Halloween for the little ones!
