Remembrance Day Through Kids’ Eyes

Assistant editor, Melissa, has many memories of Remembrance Day as a child and youth, from placing a wreath at the cenotaph in her Girl Guide uniform, to playing Last Post on the trumpet at her local Legion. We wondered how children today, some 30-40 years later view it. We are honoured to hear from our Kid Zone kids.

If you could ask a veteran one question, what would you ask?

Adi and Lander – Do you still have any friends from the war?

The poppy is a symbol of remembrance. If you could create a new symbol of remembrance, what would it be?

Adi and Lander – A butterfly.

What do you think the world would be like if there were no wars?

Control controlled by hateful people.

If you could begin a Remembrance Day tradition for kids, what would it be?

To bake red cookies.

Meet our new Kid Zone writers, 10 and 6 year old siblings, Lander and Adi! Each month, they’ll be sharing perspectives on life as a child sees it.
