Father’s Day Greetings!
I’m standing in the Shopper’s Drug Mart having a laugh-out-loud-in-public moment. You see, I’m a huge fan of Father’s Day greetings, and the card aisle is full of them. My favourites are the ones that are brutally funny with a warm undertone. Here are a few of this year’s best:
Dad, when I grow up, I hope I’m as funny as you think you are.
You’re one of my favourite parents!
Dad: Horsey, Spider Catcher, Taxi Driver, Handyman, Story Reader, Doctor, Clown, Superhero
Sorry about your other children. At least you’ve got me.
Dad, Thanks for raisin me, you’ve done a grape job!
Well done, Dad… I’m amazing!
Hey Dad, Thanks for all those times we agreed not to tell Mom.
Our June issue is also full of Father’s Day love and warmth. Little ones will want to Make a Mug for Dad (find simple instructions on page 5) while older ones can help make Bob’s Kabobs: A Father’s Day Feast from the Heart (recipes are on page 13).
Our Kid Zone kids celebrate their father in Dad to the Bone on page 11, and our resident Dad-itude writer, Jeremy, shares tips for showing your child that My Dad Always Has My Back (page 18).
Lastly, we hear from Custom Orthotics on page 21 about Supporting the Guys Who Support Everyone Else (with orthotics and compression socks, of course!) and from Nurse Practitioner, Becky Morrison, about unsilencing boys and men so that they are free of stigma when expressing their emotions (see Father’s: The Silenced Heroes on page 12).
Becky also leaves us with this perfect parting:
“To all those wonderful fathers out there,
Thank you for comforting us first before yourself.
Thank you for letting us fall, picking us up and encouraging us to do it again when your instinct was to stop and protect.
Thank you for letting us make mistakes and finding our own way.
Thank you, dads!”
