We’ve Got You Covered Like the Leaves in Your Yard!
My favourite time of the year has come around again! Fall, Thanksgiving and Halloween are here. Apples, pumpkins, fresh air, crunchy leaves and candy abound.
Our October issue is giving everything you need for these abundant festivities:
- Find out how dance reflects the spirit of Thanksgiving on page 2. “…dance allows us to express joy and gratitude for the ability to move, the music that stirs us, and the community that supports us.”
- Learn how to Harvest Family Time on page 12. “From pickling cucumbers and beets to making pasta sauce and jam, you not only provide nutrition for the family but are strengthening the family bond.” Get in the kitchen with your special people this month.
- Need some ideas for healthy fall comfort foods? We talk soups, stews and chocolate covered apple slices on page 19. Plus pick up a recipe for Pumpkin Oatmeal Muffins there too!
- Picture this: It’s one week ‘til Halloween and you’re carving pumpkins with the kiddos. Seeds are everywhere! Don’t throw them out. Turn to page 5 for our Maple Roasted Pumpkin Seeds recipe instead. You will not be sorry!
- Do you need a refresher in Halloween safety? We cover safe costumes, screening for candy and proper parent supervision on page 7. But we’re not all seriousness: “The scariest thing for kids is a caregiver who pilfers the good stuff, so stay out of the kids’ stash!”
- Everyone deserves the best Halloween, so we are in love with Custom Orthotics’ article on adaptive costumes. “Adaptive clothing is designed for people who have specific needs that traditional clothing cannot accommodate.” This includes Velcro closures, sensory-friendly knits and clothing that can be put on while seated. Find out where to get these costumes on page 21.
- Do you have bats in your house? If spooky season is getting a bit out of hand, find tips to bat-proof your home, your family and your pets. Step 1 is “Keep Calm and Keep Everyone Away”. Find steps 2-5 on page 22.
We are full of gratitude that you have taken the time to join us in our October issue. Thank you so much to the readers, writers, advertisers and staff who make The Mom & Caregiver possible. Wishing you a month full of thanksgiving, time with family, and spooky fun!
