A Warm Welcome Back to Jordan Thomas!

I am feeling like this is a bit of a full-circle moment, sitting in from of my laptop and thinking about what to write to you. So much has changed since I’ve written to you last. I’ve taken three years off and in that time have learned more about life than I even know what to do with. It’s difficult to know where to start, so let me start here:

Hi, I am Jordan. For those of you who followed my column in 2018-2019, I am back and it feels incredible to be here. I’ve missed you. For those of you who are new to me, I am so excited you’re here. What a journey we are all going to go on together.

Here’s a bit about me: I am a mom, a “Bonus Mom”, a partner to the most amazing woman I know, a trauma-psychotherapist-turned-clinic-owner, a dog mom, a compulsive coffee drinker, a seeker, a writer and a student of life. I use this column to write to you about life, death and everything that happens in between (casual, right?).

Here’s some other stuff you might want to know. I have recovered from mental illness, but live with it every day. I’ve been sober for three years. I have had my heart broken, my world shattered and have stared at myself in many a mirror wondering, “How did a nice girl like me end up in a place like this?” I write about this, all of it, in the hopes that when we bravely own our story, we help others to do the same. I like to lift the veil on the things we don’t talk about, to remind you (to remind myself) that we are all just walking each other home. I’m so bored of the unspoken rules of engagement, where we don’t talk about the things that matter, that I am practically falling asleep as I write. So, let’s wake up together, one truth at a time.

As we move into a post-COVID existence, we need to reconnect to each other more than ever and I think we are all figuring out what that means. Let’s start with being honest about the stuff that matters. I’ll go first…

Jordan Thomas is a psychotherapist and the owner of an award-winning trauma therapy centre. After recovering from debilitating PTSD, she has built an inspiring life and wants to help you do the same.
