Are You Showing Up for You This Love Month?

We are into the second month of the year and maybe you made promises to yourself just over a month ago. You know the ones: “Eat better/exercise more/drink less/prioritize sleep.”

How are you doing? Were your expectations more than you can actually manage? Are you stuck in an all or nothing mindset? If you are in midlife, chances are you have deeply ingrained all/nothing, black/white, right/wrong, yes/no mindset and rules when it comes to health and fitness. It is down to diet culture. It is down to pseudoscience. It is down to grifters, influencers and misinformation around what we need to do to keep promises to ourselves.

As a Certified Menopause Coaching Specialist and Coach, I hear women tell me every single day that they know what they are supposed to do, but for so many reasons they can’t make the changes stick. I get it! I used to have the same mindset – even with education in human physiology, anatomy and kinesiology. Because diet culture is that persuasive. We know what we have to do (when it is evidence based) but what we don’t focus enough on is the WHY.

What most programs fail to do is teach us to find our why – and everyone’s why is different. We can also look at personal values and how our choices align with them. One why I hear a lot from clients is that they want to be able to travel when they retire. We look at what it would entail to travel and depending on where they want to go we look at how much physicality, endurance and fitness it would take to hike, swim, climb and explore on a daily basis. Another one is to be able to keep up with grandchildren – carry them, lift them, get up and down on the floor with them. When we remove the notion of restriction and all or nothing and focus on our why, we are a pencil, not an eraser. We add things to bring more quality to our lives. I invite you to get really specific on your why and add in what you need to get there. You can join our free Facebook group, Make The Change Menopause Coaching, for education and support.
