Being Unique Amongst the Trends

As 2023 marches along, I believe we need to stay as optimistic as possible amid the media barrage of trying times, recession, surging inflation and climate change. I certainly have no crystal ball that I can count on and am also a firm believer that what makes you happy and comfortable is much more important than the “newest” trend.  But with some research, this is what some of the far trendier folks than I are suggesting for your home this year.

  1. Hello warmer tones. During the pandemic, we started to feel the desire for warmth and comfort. This is reflected in paint colours of warm mid tone neutrals. Bring in secondary dark jewel tones, chocolate brown or a bright colour as an accent wall or in accessories such as area rugs, pillows or throws. Dramatic bold print wallpaper makes for a stand-out accent wall.
  2. Warmer kitchens. Off white or creamy white cabinetry is leading the way from the stark, contemporary whites of recent kitchens. Gold or black hardware is carrying over from 2022 but is available in more traditional or transitional styles. Ultra clean lines are softening.
  3. Home layout space. Many of us have transitioned to a home office and are now heading back at least part time to work out of the home. Rooms are becoming more multi-use but more intentional. A full home office can give way to use as a den, workout space or prayer space.
  4. Stay connected. There’s an increasing desire for connected homes including smart lights, smart window coverings, doorbell cameras, home security and audio systems.
  5. Sustainable, recycled home objects.  We see a rising sense of nostalgia in the popularity of expressing your individualism using vintage pieces. Thrifting has become a fun family pass time and a unique way to make your home an expression of you.
  6. Reduce plastics. The use of more wood and metal and less plastic in furniture and décor feeds this nostalgic feeling as well as being environmentally conscious.

Make your home a true expression of you, your family and your love of life. Express the exceptional, unique being that you are!
