Celebrating Mom in New and Wonderful Ways

As I sit down to write this special Mother’s Day note, I can’t help but be reminded of my mom who is no longer with us. My mom and I didn’t have the best relationship, and I was always striving for her love. The front cover photo is a reminder of how I would desperately try to get my mom to kiss me on the lips so I could have her lipstick on me. It is the only makeup she wore, and now you will always find me with my signature lipstick on. This cover is so sweet and dear to me as this little sweetheart looks a lot like me as a little girl.

I’d like to introduce you to some very special people this month. Becky Morrison and Frank Emanuele are two fabulous writers who are challenging the way we think about Mother’s Day, and we LOVE that!

Am I a good mom? That’s the question mental health specialist and nurse practitioner, Becky, asks this month, and it’s one many of us have asked ourselves in the mirror. But it’s silly! “What proof do you have that you aren’t a good mom, or in fact a great mom? Do you provide love, safety, food and shelter to your children? If the answer is yes, then you ARE a great mom.” It’s so important here at The Mom & Caregiver to tell you – mamas, you are the unsung heroes of the world, so be kind to yourselves!

Frank gets real this month and speaks the truth – Mom wants the gift of time, people! Here are Mother’s Day present ideas that give the wonder of a day without schedules or to-do lists.

  • A blanket, snacks and a quiet place to binge watch her fave show
  • Alone time to tap into a creative outlet like painting or writing
  • Sleeping in – and by this we mean get everyone out of the house so it’s quiet!
  • A weekend getaway with friends or romantic stay for two (prearrange child care so Mom doesn’t have to)

You absolutely deserve this, mamas! To you, we say thank you, and we love you!
