Extra Support for Youth

In our rapidly changing world, youth are facing many new challenges and may need some extra support. Beyond providing fitness, child care and camp programs to families across Southwestern Ontario, the YMCA is proud to offer a range services for youth in our communities to help them reach their goals and support their mental wellness.

The Youth Transitions Program sets vulnerable youth ages 12 to 19 up for future success. The goal is to help empower youth to reach their fullest potential by strengthening their social network, building resiliency in life and education and improving access to resources and technology. With a flexible design so that youth can participate in the activities that make sense for them, options include one-on-one support, life skills workshops (budgeting, resume building, etc.) and mentorship opportunities.

Another new and exciting program, Y Mind, aims to support teens and youth dealing with mild to moderate stress and anxiety. Using evidence-based tools and strategies grounded in Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) and mindfulness, participants are able to connect with others with similar experiences and learn coping strategies to deal with their symptoms. Anxiety can affect our daily lives. The Y is committed to helping youth develop healthy skills for managing difficult emotions and prevent anxiety from getting in the way of activities they care about.
