Full STEAM Ahead!

STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math, and aims to teach students innovation, critical-thinking and the use of technology in creative and imaginative approaches to real-world problems.

Do you like science experiments and/or math problems? Why or why not?

Luca: I love math because I get numbers and it’s easy for me. I like science experiments that are messy, fun and chaotic!

Nico: I like Tinker Crate experiments because they are fun to build and play with. I just kinda like math problems because I sometimes I get stuck.

Do you do any art or music activities? Tell us all about them.

Luca: At home I practice piano. Right now I’m practicing Christmas songs. I like drawing characters from video games, dragons and imaginary creatures that don’t exist.

Nico: I love art! I love to paint pictures for my family. I like music too. I play the piano and I learned to play “I Just Can’t Wait to be King”. That’s from the Lion King movie!

Are you allowed to have screen time at home? What kind of rules are in place regarding technology at your house? Do you think these rules are fair?

Luca: I am allowed to use a laptop, tablet, Nintendo Switch or DS. I have to ask permission and I only get about two hours a day, sometimes less. I have to ask to download games and sometimes I get extra time if I am working on my stories. I think the rules are fair because they make sense and I feel like I have enough freedom. But I am a bit annoyed that I can’t get a phone yet!

Nico: I have to ask before I go on screens. And sometimes I have to play learning games. When Daddy or Papa says it’s time to get off your screens, I say OK and turn off my screen.

Meet our newest Kid Zone writers, 9 and 7 year old brothers Luca and Nico. Each month, they’ll be sharing perspectives on life as a child sees it.
