Grillin’ Time

If you take a summer walk through any suburban neighbourhood during the evening or weekends, you are bound to smell the savoury scent of someone’s sizzling supper. Ah yes, grilling season is in full swing this month! Even if – like us – you use your grill year-round, there is something very satisfying with using your grill more regularly in the warmer months.

Meal preparation becomes less of a chore, it is easier to plan ahead, and you can grill different types of meals all at once! I’m sure it takes very little convincing to agree that the whole family loves a grilled dinner. So here are a few of our family’s mouth-watering favourites!

The Classic Burger

Whether you make your own, get them fresh from a butcher, or pull patties out of a freezer, everyone loves a homemade burger. Jazz it up with a fancy cheese, freshly grilled bacon, or maybe some hot sauce… mmmm, is your mouth watering yet? Yeah, it is!

Skewers/Kabobs
Our family is a fan of lamb skewers dipped in tzatziki with a side of salad. Sometimes, we get the kids involved in prepping meat and/or veggie kabobs. They get to create their own favourite combinations which makes mealtime go much smoother.

Grilled Veggies
A grilled vegetable side is a must with every meal. Our favourites include sweet potatoes, zucchini, asparagus and bell peppers. I season them with salt, pepper, garlic and olive oil. Simple and delish!

Sausages and Hot Dogs
Every year we try to find the BEST sausage in town, and it becomes a family taste-test tradition! Some delectable choices we’ve found include rapini sausages, bacon cheddar smokies, and a local butcher’s Portuguese chorizo.

Chicken
However you season it and whatever part you enjoy, chicken always tastes better grilled. Some of our regulars include honey garlic wings (spicy for the adults), BBQ drumsticks and pesto chicken breasts.

Steak
I can’t complete this list without mentioning a sizzling steak dinner. Thankfully, the boys love steaks the way we do, and I’ve learned to perfect a killer chimichurri sauce that tops this meal to perfection.
