Meet Ashley of Featherfields

I grew up surrounded by strong, positive females, my Grandmother and Mother, who owned their own businesses for over 30 years. My Grandmother built her highly successful business at a time when women did not raise a family and work, let alone run their own business. I knew that I would one day follow in their footsteps.

My journey has not been an easy one, but each step has brought me to today, and I couldn’t be more grateful.  I grew up in London, graduated from the Photography Program at Fanshawe, then moved to Toronto. I interned at FASHION magazine, managed a retail stationery store and opened the first brick and mortar store in Canada for LeLabo, my favourite perfume company. Eventually, I landed a job as an Administrative Assistant with an Engineering firm, but when the opportunity to return to London came up in 2018, I knew I had to take it. I was ready to find “it”, whatever that was. When I heard Featherfields, a very well-known nature store located in Hyde Park, was for sale, I realized all of my passions could be combined in one perfect career move.

Juggling a world-wide pandemic and pregnancy in my first year of ownership had its challenges, but giving up was never an option. I needed to be a strong influence for Parker, who was born in September 2020. I decided to expand, and when the perfect location came up I jumped on it, opening our flagship Featherfields store in Wortley Village. This new bigger space includes a sitting area to curl up with one of our many books, and an incredible kids section full of educational activities and games.

Featherfields is not only a retail store, but an experience that customers describe as the perfect way to unwind, relax, and even get things off their chest. Our customers have developed relationships with the staff over the past 26 years, and that is what I continue to do. Teaching children about nature and mindfulness is so important as it was my son that taught me to slow down and enjoy the little moments.

I knew I could craft a life that made me truly happy every day, that I was going to find a way to “do it all”, and I can proudly say it’s not easy, but that’s exactly what I’m doing.
