Questions You Didn’t Even Know You Should Be Asking?

It’s true that we’ll be busy celebrating this month. April brings Passover, Easter, Eid and Earth Day. So special meals, sweets and chocolate treats will abound. And we love that so much, but we also love helping our readers with the everyday challenges they face as parents. So that’s why our April issue also features answers to the questions you’ve been asking, wanting to ask, or didn’t even know you should be asking! Here you go!

Are we weighing our children too often? This is the question that Ginette Blake of the Middlesex-London Health Unit asks us this month. Do you know what’s recommended and why doing this too often might not be a great idea? Find out more on page 6.

Your child made a mistake? Of course they did! As humans, we all do. But how we react as adults really makes a difference in how they’ll feel about mistakes throughout their whole lives. Find tips for responding in the right way on page 17.

Let’s slay the stigma of mental health! Join us on page 13 to hear Becky Morrison’s story. It is at times heartbreaking, but watch out! She’s not sulking – she’s a phoenix rising from the ashes and reducing “the stigma and shame associated with thorny topics before they have a chance to take root”.

Why do pronouns matter? “Imagine being called the wrong name by everyone, every day that you go to work. What if someone consistently referred to you as a SHE when you are clearly not female – and you’ve corrected this person many, many times! How would that make you feel?” Frank Emanuele explains why he, she and they really matter in his page 12 article.

Menopause. Ugh! It’s coming for all of us, ladies. Is hormone replacement therapy going to be right for you? Find out what doctors are saying in 2023 with Dr. Bhooma Bhayana on page 8.

We’re wishing you the knowledge and confidence to tackle all the daily challenges coming your way through this wonderful journey we call parenthood. And we’re wishing you some special sweets, treats and celebration time with family this month in the midst of it all!
