Talking to “Mama Experts”

May is a really big month for us here at The Mom & Caregiver. We want to shower the special women in our lives with so much love on Mother’s Day, but truly it can be hard to put into words just how much they mean to us. In a typical month at the magazine, we gather experts in their fields to write articles for us, and we have certainly done that again this month. (Don’t miss RBC Royal Bank’s fantastic budgeting tips on page 17 or Custom Orthotics’ “May is Multiple Sclerosis Month” on page 21.)

But this time, we’ve reached out to sons, fathers, and mothers themselves. We want to know how these “mama experts” celebrate the amazing women in their lives, and to get an inside peek at how it truly feels to be a mom in 2022. So join us on this jubilation of all things “mommy” as we raise a glass to those who have or continue to make our life so possible and so sweet!

  • We reached out to two very special moms who go to battle for their families each and every day. You’ll want to hear Paula’s and Christie’s beautiful stories of mothering on pages 9 and 20.
  • Ever wonder who gets the school Mother’s Day crafts when there are two dads in your family? Find out the unique meaning of aunties in Mother’s Day for Gay Dads on page 12.
  • Are you a COVID mama? Did you have a pregnancy or birth during the pandemic, and are you now trying to raise a little one through restrictions and health concerns? Find out how to keep yourself mentally healthy during these trying times on page 14.
  • Looking to spoil mom with some home-baked goodies? 11-year-old sons, Harrison and Charlie, know how to do it right! Can you say Lemon Bars and Chocolate Caramel Poke Cake? (find full recipes on page 11)
  • Do Mom or Grandma love the earth as much as they love receiving gorgeous gifts? From body wash to fine jewels, find five vegan Mother’s Day gifts on page 15.

So, this issue is for the mamas, the grandmas, the aunties, the neighbours, the step-moms, the sisters… whoever is special in your life. “To the world you are a mother. To your family, you are the world.”
