Three Things I’m Leaving in 2024

It’s January. Instead of telling you what to do, I’m telling you what I’m doing. Take it, leave it, roll it up and use it to kill a spider. You pick!

Firstly, I’m not a hero. I save that label for people like Joey Chestnut, who can eat 76 hot dogs in ten minutes. But I do believe in leading by example. If you don’t know what you’re doing, imitate someone who looks like they do. Sometimes, we can create more change by doing LESS negative stuff instead of more positive.

Here are three things that I’m leaving behind in 2024 for your consideration:

#1 – Having a reaction to things I have no control over

Many headlines were anxiety-triggering for me. January 6th. Ukraine. Sandoval cheating on Ariana. How I feel about them doesn’t change their happening, or whether or not they will improve. So, I’m leaving being bothered by that stuff in 2024.

#2 – Taking shortcuts in nutrition because I’m tired/busy/distracted

It’s easy to stop at a drive thru for coffee in the morning, getting a sweet caffeine jolt and dopamine hit from growing reward points simultaneously. Rocking a K-cup in a Yeti takes 60 seconds and saves $20 a week. Same for lunches. Meal prepping is simple. Protein – vegetable – grain – sauce/seasoning. There are more combos than Mortal Kombat when I was 10, and I can make my doctor proud for once. Having Chinese food 15 feet from my office front door has made for a slovenly 2024.

#3 – Haters gonna hate; I’m just gonna shake it off

We all knew buttheads as kids. They’re still buttheads now, but they just have kids too. I generally enjoy meeting new people, networking, and connecting others with community.  But I’ve also met parents whom George Costanza would tell that the jerk store called and they are all out of them. Turning 40 is permission not to impress everyone. When people are bored or unhappy, they talk about others and like James Franco said, “they hate us cuz they ain’t us”.

What are you going to leave in 2024?

Jeremy McCall is a married father of 3, a social services case manager, and known as “The Dadfather”, being the founder and Past President of Dad Club London.
