What our children want you to know

Thinking of adopting? You must first think of fostering. The London CAS is always looking for families for children. We do not look for children for families.

We need care providers who understand that our children come with suitcases in different sizes and shapes. In some suitcases, children present with prenatal drug and alcohol exposure. Some children have been exposed to domestic violence, physical or sexual abuse and/or chronic neglect.

Our children need care providers who are willing to commit to teaching them, loving them and comforting them as they process their memories in their suitcase. Our children need you to know that they want to be with their birth family. They want CAS to work with their parents to teach them safe ways to parent and be successful. Our children want you to know that, if reunification with family does not work, then they can remain with your family. Our children want you to know that they will always want to maintain connections to their community, culture and biological roots.

Our children want you to know that they don’t want to move between homes. We need families who are willing to take the risk of the unknown instead of the children having to take that risk. Our children want you to love them unconditionally and support them with any reunification with family. They also want you to know that, if they can’t go home to their birth parents or extended family, they want you to adopt them because our children deserve permanency, consistency and stability.

Our children want you to know that they want you to meet, show kindness and have respect for their birth parents. Our children want you to know that, if you adopt them, they want you to make sure you keep them connected to the people in their lives who they already have.

Our kids need to have people in their life who have lived their story with them to help with their own identity as they grow.
