Where Will You Find Me This Summer?

Summer is short but sweet in Canada. So it’s important we make the most of the hot sunny days, warm wavy waters, yummy light eats and breezy carefree evenings of summer. You’ll find me on road trips, patios, walking trails and at ice cream stands. You’ll also find me (and our fabulous writers) here:

The Beach – Don your bathing suit (and strut in it, ladies), bring a beach read and tuck your toes in the sand. Whether you’re team Grand Bend or team Port Stanley, the beach is the place to be. Check out “Summer Adventures with Kids and Canines” (page 22) for beachy safety tips. Did you know that both kids AND dogs need PFDs and sun protection?

My Backyard – I have four words for you: strawberry watermelon slushie drinks. I have three more words for you: add some vodka. I can just picture myself whipping up a batch of these quick and easy blender drinks, and then lounging on my back deck. Find the recipe on page 14. Ahhh!

Poolside – If you’re lucky enough to have a pool (or luckier yet to know a friend with one), you’ll want to read up on your pool rules in” Summertime Sun & Water Safety” on page 7. Enter feet first! Come out at the first sight of lightening or sound of thunder! Maybe you should even bring a whistle so you sound official.

The Garden – So many of us find the garden to be a sanctuary of peace. So if you’ve planted a beautiful yardful of flowers, or even just popped some plants into a deck pot, you’ll want to read “They’re the Bees Knees!” Did you know that bees aren’t the only pollinators? Find out who else helps out on page 18.

Camping – Haha! If you know me well, you know this one is a joke. I don’t do bugs, outhouses or sleeping on the ground.  But if you’re willing to give camping a try, the backyard is a fun and safe place to start. Check out this month’s Frankly Fatherhood (page 12) for tips, tricks and activity ideas (plus a back-out plan if needed).

Happy summering to you all!
