You Need To Master The Basics

Have you heard about the concept of “the educated fool”? It is when you have all kinds of information, you know what to do, but you are stuck. You can’t take action. You don’t move forward because you are looking for the right thing to come along and get you to start.

By the time we reach midlife, we have been inundated with narratives, messages and rhetoric that pulls us in a million different directions, each one offering us the “BEST” solution to our problems. Now, for the midlife women I work with, feeling better is why most of them hire me. They want more energy, to drop body fat and to gain strength. They are paralyzed with information. They don’t believe that anything they try will work because they feel like they have tried everything to no avail.

Here’s the truth and it is backed up by leading exercise physiologists, registered dietitians, menopause specialists and people who have decades of experience in how the human body works:

You need to understand and then stick to the basics. That’s it.

Here’s the rub though – we love the next shiny new thing. Our brains crave it. We want more information. When we seek and gather information, it feels like we are doing something. When we do something, we expect change. Except… just gathering information and learning does not equate to change. The only thing that equates to change is action. We use up so much bandwidth when we seek change without implementing it.

If you want to feel better, you need to work on the 4 big rocks:

Movement

Nutrition

Sleep

Stress Management

Consistently. For at least a year. I know I’ll lose some of you on this. But hear me out – imperfect consistency over 1-2 years will give you a lifetime of increased energy because you won’t be using bandwidth in the hunt for the quick fix/hack/easy solution that you have been sold for decades. Only imperfect consistency can get you where you need to go to feel better. Reach out if you want more information! You can reach me at
