Easing Back into Back-to-School – Part 2
Last month I shared with you some of my top tips for meal planning and getting creative with back-to-school and back-to-regularly-scheduled-programming (ahem… work, extra-curricular activities, parenting, taxi-driving kids, homework, sports, etc. etc.).
Here are some more tips for making breakfasts and lunches a breeze this month.
- Get the kids involved
- Set up an assembly line! Let the kids choose what they want in their lunchbox from the options available. This not only makes them more likely to eat their lunch but also teaches them about balanced meals.
- For the young ones, make lunches fun by using cookie cutters to shape sandwiches or adding colorful veggies. Involving kids in the preparation process can make them more excited about eating their meals.
- Healthy breakfasts on the go
- Prepare jars of overnight oats with different toppings like berries, nuts and seeds. These can be made in advance and provide a quick, nutritious breakfast option. There are tons of recipe ideas online, with lots of different flavor combos.
- Assemble smoothie packs with pre-measured fruits, veggies, and a scoop of protein powder. Store these in the freezer, and in the morning, just add liquid and blend for a quick and healthy breakfast.
- Stay organized
- Keep your fridge and pantry organized with labeled bins and containers. This makes it easy to find ingredients and keeps everything in its place.
- Review what worked and didn’t in your meal plan at the end of each week. Adjust accordingly to make the next week even more efficient.
With a little preparation and creativity, the back-to-school transition doesn’t have to be stressful. Planning, involving your kids, and keeping meals fun and nutritious will ensure that your family stays healthy and happy during the busy school year. Here’s to a successful and delicious start to the new school year!
