Heart-Shaped Egg-in-a-Hole

Father’s Day is around the corner and what better way to show how much you love Dad than a heart-shaped breakfast!

This is a fun meal to recreate for all ages, so make sure to enlist the help of your littles – heck, I would even assign them the task of making breakfast that morning if they are old enough to work with the stove top. For young ones, have them do the heart cut-outs and help with cleaning some fruit to go on the side.

Ingredients

  • 2 slices of whole wheat bread
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons of butter or margarine
  • salt and pepper

Directions

  1. Lightly butter each slice of bread on both sides.
  2. Place bread on a cutting board and cut a heart shape using a cookie cutter.
  3. Place the bread and the heart shape piece of bread into the frying pan and toast lightly for a few minutes.
  4. Flip the bread with hole in it, then carefully crack the egg into the center. Flip the heart shape piece of bread as well so it’s gets nice and toasted.
  5. Cover the pan and cook the egg for a few minutes, or until it’s cooked to Dad’s liking. Transfer to a plate and sprinkle with salt and pepper.
  6. Serve with a side of fruit and coffee.

Happy Father’s Day!
