The Great Tween Gift-Giving Dilemma
Ah, the holiday season—the most wonderful time of the year. A time for love, joy, and pulling your hair out trying to find the perfect gifts for your tween daughter.
If you’re tired of the same old routine of giving her socks she’ll never wear, fear not! Socks are in! And the more mismatched they are, the cooler they look with their “slides”. Who am I to say they look like a fashion-senseless 80-year-old tourist who didn’t look in the mirror or even open their eyes as they slid into their “sandals.” I mean… I wore safety pins in my pants when I was her age.
Imagine a Christmas morning where the kids are ploughing through all of the presents like Ralphie and Randy from A Christmas Story. Only, instead of looking at each other and flailing the socks in synchro over their shoulders, they get the same astounded reaction as when Ralphie opened the Red Rider BB gun. Wow… socks!!! (It’s a “mismatched” miracle. One could only wish.)
Let’s face it, this year many families are struggling financially. Or maybe it’s time to bring the Christmas gift expectations under the tree into check, now that the magic of Christmas is beginning to fizzle for your tween. Whatever the reason, socks are the go-to gift for every occasion. This year, level up your sock game with a box of socks, nesting inside more boxes of “soxes.” It can be a funny way of transitioning your tween into new traditions that are memorable. Picture the look of surprise on their face when they unwrap each new sock to add to their collection. Don’t forget to have your camera ready to capture their priceless reactions!
Sometimes, the most memorable gifts are the best gifts, the ones your kid never saw coming. Humour is the secret ingredient to making it memorable. So, this holiday season, let’s banish the notion that socks are an unacceptable gift for tweens. Instead, let your imagination run wild and embrace the world of quirky, unexpected and humourous experiences that pave a realistic path forward.
